Colfax Announces New Line Of Servers and Workstations Supporting Intel® Xeon Phi™ Coprocessors

Complete solution ecosystem to support engineers and scientists in research centers and industry accelerate application parallelization and optimization

SUNNYVALE, CA, - June 17, 2013 - Colfax International, a leader in high performance computing (HPC) solutions, today announced support for the Intel® Xeon Phi™ Coprocessors across its new line-up of ServEdge servers and ProEdge workstations that deliver coprocessor density, compute power and efficiency, enabling researchers and scientists to achieve breakthrough innovations & discoveries for highly-parallel workloads.

To further complement the cutting-edge hardware, Colfax offers developer training programs which discuss the applicability of the Intel many-core technology, demonstrate the programming models for Intel Xeon Phi coprocessor including native execution and offload-based approaches, and provide extensive optimization techniques to effectively exploit the potential of the Intel Xeon Phi coprocessor.

Colfax ServEdge Servers for Diverse Needs
Combining the power of Intel Xeon Phi coprocessors which provide up to 61 cores, 244 threads, and 1.2 teraflops of performance, the Colfax ServEdge many core HPC servers come in a variety of configurations to address diverse workload, performance, and efficiency requirements.

To address the most intensive high performance computing (HPC) demands, the CXP9000 offers maximized processor density and power efficiency, supporting up to 8 Intel Xeon Phi coprocessors in a single 4U system.

The comprehensive portfolio of ServEdge servers also includes high density 1U and 2U servers with up to 4 Intel Xeon Phi coprocessors.

ProEdge Workstations
The new ProEdge series of workstations, are a perfect fit for software engineers, scientific researchers, and high performance computing developers working their way through the applications development lifecycle for programming on Intel Xeon Phi coprocessors.

Available with up to 4 Intel Xeon Phi coprocessors, the Colfax workstations feature comprehensive Intel software development suites, Parallel Studio XE or Cluster Studio XE. Using this tightly integrated hardware and software solution, developers can be immediately productive with an optimized out-of-the-box solution.

"By accelerating application parallelization, industry, science and other high performance computing users have the opportunity to unlock the capabilities enabling breakthrough innovations," said Gautam Shah, CEO, Colfax International. "Colfax helps engineers and scientists to fully exploit the many parallel computing features of Intel Xeon processors and Intel Xeon Phi coprocessors by providing them with compute capacity and the know-how needed for higher levels of innovation and competitiveness.”

"Intel(R) Xeon Phi(TM) coprocessors are generating a lot of excitement in the industry," said Rajeeb Hazra, VP and GM of Technical Computing Group at Intel. "Colfax is making a difference to customers by providing both platforms and training to help programmers realize the power efficiency and programmability potential."

The Colfax Developer Training (CDT) curriculum designed in consultation with Intel aims to educate training attendees on the best practices and optimization methods for Intel Xeon processors and Intel Xeon Phi coprocessors.

The curriculum will be available as a 1 day introductory class, 3 day advanced class and a 5 day deep-dive class. The training is delivered both at a Colfax facility or onsite.

Additionally Colfax also offers a 3-day or 7-day self-study program for a worldwide audience, with exclusive non-virtualized remote access to the latest cutting-edge Colfax systems. This unique program will help developers quickly try out their code and get up to speed with application development.

Key features of Colfax Developer Training include:
  • Example-based learning facilitated by numerous hands-on exercises
  • Small class size allowing for close interaction with instructors and peers
  • Dedicated access to non virtualized cutting-edge systems
  • Electronic and printed training materials designed as a comprehensive developer's guide

"The dedication of the team at Colfax in developing their training has made working with them a pleasure," said James Reinders, Director and Evangelist, Intel Corporation. "They clearly convey that parallel programming is the key for both processors and the Intel Xeon Phi coprocessors while also providing in-depth and quality hands-on content so that software developers can benefit from increasing their parallel programming expertise."

ISC'13 Demos
Intel will be demonstrating a basic N-body simulation developed by Colfax at their booth #341. The N-body simulation refers to the computational problem of solving the equations of motion of gravitationally or electrostatically interacting particles. It is the foundation of a number of applications in computational astrophysics and biophysics.

The new Colfax platforms introduced today are immediately available.
